China
1 – Anushka Saxena (Observer Research Foundation) writes that the 2023 Chinese Central Economic Work Conference (CEWC) concluded on December 12. Overall, the course of action seems quite clear: move from export-led growth to domestic demand-led growth

China – Russia
Shravishtha Ajaykumar (Observer Research Foundation) writes that, in 2019, China and Russia strengthened their collaboration in scientific and technological innovation. This collaboration, which dates back to the 1990s, was relaunched in a letter signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in March 2023, before his visit to Russia. In 2021, Russia and China launched the road map for lunar research and exploration. The collaboration also included remote sensing, electronic components for spaceflight applications and space debris tracking. In the field of cooperation in nuclear technology and energy, the two countries have undertaken the construction of the seventh and eighth thrusters. The third and fourth units of the Xudabao nuclear power plant in China were launched in May 2021. Additionally, the countries promised the completion of a cross-border gas pipeline to supply natural gas via Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin routes. Of particular interest is strategic convergence in the biotechnology sector: Beijing and Moscow recognize its potential not only to drive their scientific progress but also to reshape the global scientific landscape

India

India is set to become a $5 trillion economy by 2027. The Author analyzes the strengths and efforts that need to be made in 2024

2 – Gershon Hacohen (BESA Center) writes that, on the morning of October 7, 2023, Israel’s strategic concept of security collapsed, marking the end of the 30 years that have passed since the Oslo Accords. 3 – Tamar Hermann, Or Anabi (Israel Democracy Institute) write that about two-thirds (66%) of Israelis say Israel should not accept US demands to move to a phase of the war with reduced heavy bombing in populous areas. 75% of Israeli Jews oppose complying with the demands, compared to only 21% of Israeli Arabs
Japan
Kei Hakata, Teruaki Aizawa, Brendon J. Cannon (Observer Research Foundation) write that, in recent years, a very significant evolution has occurred in Japan’s strategic narrative. Diplomats in Tokyo now talk of a “free and open international order based on the rule of law” rather than the more familiar “free and open Indo-Pacific”

Hou Yu-ih promised to invest in Taiwan’s defenses while pursuing dialogue with China. It is unclear whether Beijing will condition the latter solution on Hou not pursuing the former
