The UK government is on the wrong side of history… again (Ahmed Abu Artema, Al Jazeera)

On November 19, British Home Secretary Priti Patel announced that she is seeking a terror designation for the Palestinian movement Hamas. Its military wing has already been banned in the United Kingdom, but now the government wants to extend the measure to the political party as well.

If the designation is approved by the British Parliament, this would effectively criminalise support for the movement, including actions such as wearing clothing with its slogans or flying its flag. Patel claimed that the proscription order is vital for protecting the UK’s Jewish community and combatting anti-Semitism.

Hamas grows bolder in West Bank (Mai Abu Hasaneen, Al-Monitor)

Hamas operatives seem to have renewed their activity in the West Bank in response to Israeli raids in the wake of the recapturing of six Palestinians who escaped an Israeli prison in September.

The recent raids of West Bank villages reveal Israel’s concerns over Hamas’ renewed activities. On Sept. 26, Israeli forces killed three Palestinians in the village of Biddu, north of Jerusalem. According to the Israeli military, the three men were part of Biddu cell planning to carry out attacks against Israeli targets.

Hamas/Israel. Hamas has its Own Logic. What is Israel’s Logic? (Udi Dekel, INSS)

Hamas is conducting an ongoing campaign of attrition against Israel. The organization began initiating violent incidents from the Gaza Strip the very same week it scored its first achievements since Operation Guardian of the Walls, with Israel’s announcement that it was easing the closure and that a way was found to transfer funds from Qatar to the Gaza Strip. Israel, considered the “rational” side of the equation, is hard-pressed to understand the logic guiding Hamas and Yahya Sinwar, its leader in the Gaza Strip, and believes his judgment is defective. Has the time come for Israel to change the rules of the game, stop being predictable, and adopt an aggressive proactive policy, for example by closing the crossings to the Gaza Strip and/or executing a prolonged offensive against Hamas’s rocket fire capabilities and military wing? This will require determination, patience, and a capacity for enduring attacks. If Israel does not find the will to change the rules of the game because of the risk involved, Hamas will continue to determine the course of the conflict with Israel through its power of extortion.

Saudi Arabia Acts Against Hamas Terrorism

Yoni Ben Menachem

Hamas is deeply shocked by a Saudi court’s decision to send dozens of its activists to prison. They were arrested more than two years ago on suspicion of money laundering and smuggling funds to Hamas’ military-terrorist wing in the Gaza Strip, aided by money exchange companies in Turkey.

Hezbollah/Hamas/Israel/Gaza Strip – The Address for a Response to the Lebanese Attacks on Israel Is Gaza, Not Beirut (BESA Center)

Even if Hezbollah is responsible for the latest rocket attack on the Galilee, Hamas is culpable for the security deterioration in southern Lebanon due to its efforts to expand its terrorist activities to the territory of neighboring Arab states. Israel must establish a new equation in which lack of peace in the north is met in kind in the Gaza Strip.

Israel/Hamas – Between 2006 and 2011, a high-stakes negotiated prisoner exchange took place between Israel and Hamas

Al Jazeera writes: Between 2006 and 2011, a high-stakes negotiated prisoner exchange took place between Israel and Hamas, the group that governs the Gaza Strip. During that time, the two sides did not have any direct contact, so mediators from Egypt, Germany and Ireland were involved. At stake were the terms of exchange between one captured Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, and a large number of Palestinian prisoners.
