Palestinians summon Dutch envoy over NGO aid cut (Al Jazeera)

The Palestinian Authority (PA) has summoned the Dutch representative to object to the Netherlands’ decision to halt funding to a Palestinian civil society group that Israel banned as a “terrorist group” in October 2021.

In a statement on Monday, the PA rejected the “unjust and biased” decision to cut off funding to the Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC), one of six groups that Israel outlawed last year in what critics said was an assault on Palestinian civil society.

Dutch government ends funding to Palestinian civil society group (Zena Al Tahhan, Al Jazeera)

The Dutch government has said it will no longer fund one of the six major civil society and human rights organisations in Palestine which Israel banned as “terrorist groups” in October 2021.

In a statement denouncing Wednesday’s decision, the Ramallah-based Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC) – for which the Dutch government has been the lead donor since 2013 – said “this is the first time a government ends its funding for Palestinian civil society based on political conditionality”.

Gantz’s meeting with Abbas marks latest move in his role of serving Israel’s security elite (Shir Hever, Middle East Eye)

The meeting between Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, which took place last week in Gantz’s private home, has been covered intensively in the press, because it was the first formal meeting between Abbas and an Israeli official in Israel in 11 years.

The meeting was heavily criticised by the Israeli right wing. Minister of Housing and Construction Ze’ev Elkin, a member of Gantz’s own coalition, said: “Inviting home a man who insists paying salaries to the murderers of Israelis is a mistake in my opinion.

Tensions boil as Palestinian prisoners face collective punishment (Al Jazeera)

Tensions have reached boiling point in several Israeli prisons holding Palestinian prisoners, with rights groups saying authorities are keeping a number of inmates, including several injured by Israeli forces, in unknown conditions.

“The situation in the prisons is critical and very dangerous,” Milena Ansari, international advocacy officer for Addameer, a Ramallah-based prisoners rights group, told Al Jazeera, citing the continuing closure of Hamas prisoners’ sections amid recent collective punishment measures.

Three Palestinians wounded by Israeli tank fire on Gaza (Al Jazeera)

Three Palestinians have been injured by Israeli army tank fire that came after an Israeli civilian was lightly wounded by gunfire from Gaza along the border fence with Israel, officials said, in the first exchange of fire in months on the Gaza frontier.

The Israeli military said it responded to the gunfire which wounded the Israeli civilian on Wednesday with tank fire aimed at military positions manned by Hamas, which has ruled the besieged territory since 2007.
